This review is about a comedy film called “Dhamaal”, a Hindi Bollywood film released in 2007. “Dhamaal” is produced and directed by Indra Kumar. The setting of this movie is in India mostly Goya. The main actors in this film are Riteish Deshmukh, Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Javed Jaffrey and Aashish Chaudhary. Most of these actors act in comedy movies. I give four stars to this movie because of its nonstop comedy. The actors really portrayed themselves as their characters in the movie.

This movie has all the right actors. Adi (Arshad Warsi) is suppost to be the “leader” of the group. Manav (Javed Jaffrey), Adi’s brother both orphans, is the dumbest of them four. Boman (Riteish Deshmukh) who is the paranoid one of the group. Roy (Aashish Chaudhary) thinks hes the slickest of them all and calls himself “detective Roy”. These Four get kicked out of their apartment then start stealing paintings from their landlady. After selling them they get arrested then after on the trip to the police station they are released. They meet Bose (Prem Chopra) who happens to fall out of his car and then tells them about his fortune in Goya hidden under a “W. They meet inspector Kabeer (Sanjay Dutt), who is very intelligent and thinks ahead of time trying to catch them. My favorite actor in this movie was Adi (Arshad Warsi) and Roy (Aashish Chaudhary). They both are energetic and fulfilled their roles in this film as well as other films they have done.

I had many favorite scenes in this movie. One of my favorite scenes is when all four are trying to get Boman’s fathers car keys. Another scene which was the funniest in my opinion was the airplane scene. I loved how the assistance in the background is acting. One scene that I thought the director should have stopped or deleted is the scene of the crying baby and how Sanjay Dutt is trying to bribe him. I think the director was trying to hard when they put that scene, without that scene it would have been funnier. Another scene where the director should have redone was when the four friends and the inspector where trying to find the “W”.

I noticed the scene where Kabeer (Sanjay Dutt) hung four of them onto a tree, which was nearly impossible, the cheetah which they edited into the scene was inadequately done. It was like they pulled that cheetah out of a discovery channel show. They should have used a different editing technique. Another scene was when Kabeer (Sanjay Dutt) was hanging from the cliff the scenery was a fine but the thing that disturbed me was you can easily figure that Kabeer was tied to a rope. The good element of that scene would be how the director made the children dress up as real people. I noticed they had a child dress as a, a singer, an actor, and Hindu gods. It was really nice seeing the director putting this into the film. Not all directors put this sort of element into their films.

One thing about the movie and about all Bollywood movies is that they make the “Heroes” have a lot of strength to do things out of the ordinary. In this movie and additionally in most of Sunjay Dutt’s movies that he had done throughout his career is characterized as a strong guy. When I mean strong guy I mean as in throwing people across the room and pushing twenty people off his back. But many other actors in the Bollywood industry have been portrayed as an extremely strong person. Some actors in this case are Salman Khan and Sunny Deol.

The structure of this film was obvious just like mostly all of Bollywood films are. But in this movie the story line was jumpy it was immediately going to the next scene very quickly. There was no time to soak it up. Since this is a comedy it also had scenes with explosions and scenes where some of the actors are getting injured. The music for this film was good quality and it was suitable for the mood of the movie. The songs were not too time-consuming seeing that other Bollywood movies songs which are five to seven minutes. Speaking of music the movie’s sound effects where not so good despite the fact that it’s a comedy it should have some unusual noises but I truthfully did not like the sounds they have chosen. The type of humor that is put into this movie is not low class but in the middle. I had to watch this movie three or four times and while I was watching I figured out some of the jokes that I missed from the first time watching it. The landscape in this film was marvelous with all the greenery and nature. The colors of this film are very nice they show a lot of the beauty of Goya.

The scripts where well thought out. The story line was not the best until the plot of the movie. This movie has 137 minutes of amusement. This was a great movie to enjoy with the family because there were no bad explicit scenes and there was no actress in the whole movie. There is also a lesson to be thought at the end of the movie.

(This was a assignment for Film class so most of this was just to fill up space in the paper).
